White Cloud Mountain Minnow

The White Cloud Mountain minnow is a hardy species of freshwater fish and coldwater fish often kept in an aquarium. The species is a member of the carp family of the order Cypriniformes, native to China. White Cloud Mountain Minnow’s are great for tropical or cold water aquariums, and make ideal shoaling tankmates for small fancy goldfish. White Cloud Mountain Minnows are great for beginners as they are hardy and easy to keep. Assorted males and females supplied, photo for illustrative purposes only.

Can you keep White Cloud Mountain Minnows in tropical aquariums?
Although typically sold as a coldwater fish, yes, White Cloud Mountain Minnows can be adapted to live in warmer tropical aquaria. Always check what temperature they are held in at the retailer, and be sure to take your time acclimatising White Cloud Mountain Minnows if they are to be held in a warmer tropical aquarium – bring them up to temperature slowly before release. White Cloud Mountain Minnows are a popular cohabitant for fancy goldfish, which generally need a more temperate aquarium of around 18-22 degrees. White Cloud Mountain Minnows will generally thrive in temperatures no lower than 15 degrees.

Ease of care
Easy. Great for beginners, very few specific requirements. Because they are rather small, be careful not to house with overly large fish that may mistake them for food.

Diet
The food we recommend is fish flake or very small granules. They can occasionally have smaller frozen or live food, like daphnia.

Compatibility
A community aquarium with similar size non-aggressive species is ideal (avoid overly-large fish).

Breeding
Fairly easy. Males will attempt to attract females by displaying their fins alongside eachother. White Cloud Mountain Minnows are egg-scatterers, dropping their eggs freely amongst vegetation.

Life Span
White Cloud Mountain Minnow fish have an average lifespan live of 3-5 years in perfect conditions.
