Red Laser Tetra

Description

Hemigrammus coeruleus, sometimes known as the Watermelon or Coerulean tetra, is a rare and sought-after species of tetra from Peru. These fish only recently entered the aquarium trade. Even in their day to day colur, they are a gorgeous tetra, resembling large glowlight tetras with a silvery base colour and a neon pink stripe down the side. They also have a faint blue sheen over the entire body. When in breeding condition/displaying for females, however, males become a completely different fish; solid, rich red with a metallic blue face and dark fins. Males in breeding dress are perhaps some of the most intensely-coloured tetras known to man, rivaling even the ubiquitous Cardinal tetra. Their care and disposition is similar to most other medium-sized tetras. Overall, these fish are a real score for the tetra connoisseur, or someone looking for a fish that almost nobody else will have.

These are young adults, around 1.25-1.5″ long. As none have currently entered breeding dress, we are unable to sex them at this time.
