Aquarium water can accumulate various chemical products and pollutants over time, including those present in tap water. Poly-Filter effectively removes:
- Proteins and Amino Acids
- Nitrite, Nitrate, and Ammonia

As the filter captures these pollutants, its colour changes, indicating when it needs replacement. Once it turns black, it’s time to switch it out. Notably, once saturated, Poly-Filter does not release any hazardous substances back into the aquarium, unlike some other filter media.
