Description
The denison barb also known as the red line torpedo barb is an endangered speices of cyprinid fish endemic to the fast-flowing hill streams and rivers of the Western Ghats in India. Its long and torpedo-shaped gives the fish its popular name, the red lined torpedo barb. The silvery body of the fish is contrasted heavily by the black line that runs from the snout to tail. A red line also runs above the black line from the nose through the eye till the midpoint of the body. Its dorsal fin edged in bright red, caudal fin in black and yellow stripes, a stunning specimen. Matured specimens are known to develop a greyish green hue on the head. The denison barb grows to a maximum adult size of five inches in captivity with an abundance of food. This species has a pair of barbels that help them locate prey.
