Apistogramma uaupesi (A156) (MALES ONLY)

Description

Apistogramma uaupesi is an attractive and somewhat variable cichlid from the Uaups river in northern South America. There are several colour forms that have earned such names as “Red-Wedge Dwarf Cichlid” or “Blood Throat Dwarf Cichlid”, but these represent natural variability of colour and pattern, not any locales or subspecies. What’s most notable about this species, though, is not its colour but its beautiful finnage. With interesting double-tasseled tail and a huge, sail-like dorsal fin, a male Uaupesi with fins spread in a mating display is a sight to see.

These are locally-bred subadults around 1-1.5″. They’re just beginning to develop adult colour.
