Product Overview

Apistogramma sp. 'Opal' is a beautiful Apisto that may or may not be a locality of A. borellii, the Umbrellla Cichlid; if they're not the same species, they're certainly quite closely related. Both have heavy iridescence and very large, sail-like finnage.

Description

Apistogramma sp. ‘Opal’ is a beautiful Apisto that may or may not be a locality of A. borellii, the Umbrellla Cichlid; if they’re not the same species, they’re certainly quite closely related. Both have heavy iridescence and very large, sail-like finnage. As opposed to standard borellii, sp. ‘Opal’ has little to no yellow in the body and more pronounced red and blue “mask” markings on the face. These smaller Apistos only reach about 2.5″ maximum, and are not very fussy about water conditions compared to some dwarf cichlids.

These are juveniles around 1″ long. They arebeginning to colour up and while we can make accurate guesses at sex, there are no guarantees of specific sexes at this time.

Description

They are a type of dwarf cichlid. However, unlike many other cichlids, they are generally peaceful. They will thrive in aquariums of at least 20 gallons with sandy substrate and lots of hides or plants. Feeding Apistogrammas is not complicated as they will eat prepared foods, frozen foods or live foods. They are carnivores, so choose foods to meet their needs such as frozen bloodworms and carnivorous pellets. All pictures shown are for illustration purposes only.
