African Starry Night Spiny Eel

Description

Afromastacembalus frenatus is mid-sized spiny eel that is widespread in Africa, even occurring in the great rift lakes. These hardy fish appreciate sandy substrate to burrow in, and pair well with tankmates too large to be eaten. Reaching just over a foot, they are not tiny but still manageably sized. Like all spiny eels they may be slow to eat at first but frozen blood or tubifex worms are a great enticing treat.

These are juveniles around 3-4″ long.
