Corydoras eques, commonly known as the “Corydoras Horseface,” belongs to the Corydoras genus of freshwater catfish. They are part of the Callichthyidae family. These fish are popular in the aquarium trade due to their small size, peaceful nature, and interesting behaviors.

1. Temperature: Corydoras eques thrive in temperatures ranging from 72F to 79F (22C to 26C). It’s essential to keep the water within this range to ensure their well-being.

2. Minimum Tank Size: For a small school of Corydoras eques, a tank size of at least 20 gallons (75 liters) is recommended. However, the more significant the tank, the better it is for their overall health and comfort.

Feeding Habits: Corydoras eques are omnivorous bottom feeders. They primarily feed on small insects, worms, and plant matter. In an aquarium, they readily accept high-quality sinking pellets, flakes, frozen, and live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small invertebrates.

Habitat Preference: These fish originate from South America, particularly in the upper Amazon River basin. They prefer areas with slow-moving water, such as tributaries, and are often found in densely vegetated regions.

Water pH Level: Corydoras eques prefer a slightly acidic to neutral pH level ranging between 6.0 to 7.5.

Behavior, Schooling, or Solitary: Corydoras eques are peaceful, social fish that enjoy the company of their species. They are known to exhibit schooling behavior and feel more secure and less stressed when in a group of at least 6 or more individuals. They are primarily bottom dwellers, often sifting through the substrate for food.
