Description

Also known as Honeycomb Pufferfish, Honeycomb Sharpnose Puffer, Honeycomb Sharpnose Pufferfish, Pufferfish, Spotted Puffer, Spotted Toby, White-spotted Puffer, White-spotted Pufferfish, White-spotted Toby.

Found singly or in pairs, swimming close to holes for refuge, in dead and living corals or with sponges over sheltered clear lagoons and seaward reefs.
They feed on filamentous algae, corals, crustaceans and invertebrates.
Length – 8cm
Depth – 1-30m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

The bodies of Pufferfish are covered in a toxic mucus, if the skin or flesh is consumed it can be fatal to humans.
When threatened they will puff up like a football to deter predators.
