Hygrophila difformis (Water Wisteria)

Hygrophila difformis from Asia is beautiful, easy and undemanding.
Stems becomes 20-30 cm tall and 6-12 cm wide. An excellent plant for beginners which can help create a balance in the aquarium from the start. Its rapid growth helps prevent algae because the plant absorbs a great number of nutrients from the water. The shortage of micronutrients leads to pale leaves, which may be an indication that the aquarium needs fertiliser.
In large aquariums its lobed leaves can create a distinctive group.

Requires medium light- To call this an old stand-by would be an understatement -fast growing and therefore in need of routine pruning. The picture shown displays the submerse form. The emersed form (which quickly converts) arrives with a smaller, rounded (less lacey) leaf (Refer to last picture), of a more dark green which soon changes to the more pleasant submersed form picture shows emmersed form.
