Dusky Narrow Hatchetfish

Description

Triportheus angulatus is a bizarre characin (the order tetras and piranhas belong to), widespread acrossSouth America. They are deep-chested, but no so much as other hatchets, giving them a sardine like appearance. Closely related to the small hatchetfish of the generaGasteropelecusandCarnegiella, these hatchets grow much larger; up to 6″ long! Like them they are peaceful fish but liable to jump, so a complete lid is a must. These fish are very active so they bring a high degree of movement to larger communities, and make the perfect dither fish for many larger species.
