Anemone Shrimp (Periclimenes brevicarpalis)

Description

The Glass Anemone Shrimp is a popular choice for aquariums. Transparent with white spots and five orange fin spots, it’s designed to blend in with the tentacles of the anemone. It’s protected from the anemone’s stinging cells by a mucus coat which it must restore after molting. Generally, males are larger with more white spots than females. This shrimp forages for food when it feels safe, but will share with its host anemone. It thrives when there is an anemone or sea cucumber in the aquarium, and loves meat and fish-based treats.
